Privacy policy

TL;DR

• Essiraj does not collect personal data on any server.
• Essiraj does not require an account.
• Essiraj does not use third-party analytics or trackers.
• All your reading, memorization, prayer and dhikr history stays on your device.
• Optional network calls (reciter audio download, prayer-time recomputation) carry no personal identifiers.

1. Who we are

This policy applies to the Essiraj mobile application and the essiraj.com website (together, the "Service") operated by the Essiraj team ("we", "us", "our"). You can reach us at hello@essiraj.com.

2. Data we do not collect

Essiraj does not require you to sign up, log in or create an account. We do not collect or store on our servers your name, email, phone number, location, device identifier, contacts, photos, reading history, memorization progress, prayer logs, or dhikr counts.

3. Data stored on your device

The app stores the following data locally on your device so that it works offline and reflects your personal journey. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it:

• Your reading position, bookmarks and highlights
• Your memorization (hifz) progress and spaced-repetition schedule
• Your dhikr counters and daily totals
• Your prayer completion log (if enabled)
• Your app preferences (theme, language, reciter, calculation method, etc.)

You can export this data to a JSON file from the Settings screen, and you can clear it at any time by deleting the app.

4. Permissions the app requests

• Location — only used locally, in real time, to compute prayer times and the qibla direction. Your coordinates are never sent to us.
• Notifications — only used to deliver adhan alerts, memorization review reminders and the daily ayah (if you enable them).
• Storage — used to save downloaded reciter audio for offline listening.
• Microphone / camera / contacts / photos — never requested. Essiraj does not use these.

5. Network requests

• Downloading or streaming reciter audio from our content-delivery network (CDN).
• Occasionally fetching updated prayer-time formulas or translation patches.
• Crash reports — only if you opt in, and with all personal identifiers stripped.

6. Third parties

We do not sell, rent or share your information with advertisers, data brokers, or any third party. We use a content-delivery network to serve audio and translations; that provider only sees the bare technical request, not who you are.

7. Children

Essiraj is family-friendly and includes a dedicated kids mode. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone. The kids mode contains no external links, no in-app purchases and no social features.

8. Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)

Because we do not store your data on our servers, there is generally no personal data for us to retrieve, correct or delete. If you ever have a question or concern, write to hello@essiraj.com — we'll respond within 30 days.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the "last updated" date at the top and, for material changes, we will highlight the change in the app and on this page.
